Japanese Rice Wine Jugs - Home Décor With A Story
Watch on House Cinema: https://houseofwillowalexander.co.uk/cinema/japanese-rice-wine-jugs-home-decor-with-a-story These Japanese rice wine jars once held sake in its transformative stages. Broad and purposeful, they were made to store and mature the drink that sits at the centre of many Japanese rituals, from humble meals to ceremonial toasts. Thrown in stoneware and finished in rich, earthy glazes, each jar carries the marks of its making: slight variations in form, drips where glaze settled and ran, surfaces softened by years of handling. They were designed to endure, to sit patiently in breweries and storehouses while rice, water, and time performed their slow alchemy. Time, of course, has changed their role. The sake long since poured, and rather disappointingly not replenished, these jars remain as sculptural vessels instead. Their generous curves and weathered surfaces carry the memory of their former life, even if the contents have vanished somewhere into history (and no doubt several very pleasant evenings). Objects designed for use become, with time, objects of atmosphere. At the House of Willow Alexander, we are drawn to pieces that carry both function and fascination, where history becomes texture, and where even an empty vessel still manages to feel wonderfully full of story. #homedesign #craftmanship #history #story #vintagestyle #antiquedecor #antiquestyle #antiques
