Inside a Kent Home Designed to Be Lived In

Watch on House Cinema: https://houseofwillowalexander.co.uk/cinema/inside-a-kent-home-designed-to-be-lived-in Step inside a beautifully layered Kent home, where early twentieth-century architecture, contemporary living and carefully gathered objects come together to create an interior shaped by time, use and everyday life. This Kent home interior balances the character of traditional English domestic architecture with the openness of a modern extension. From its colourwashed elevations, tile-hung upper storey and gravel approach to the double-height sitting room, expansive glazing and contemporary kitchen, the house moves quietly between heritage and modern living. Inside, the home is defined by warmth, restraint and texture. Hand-blown glass pendant lights sit above the kitchen island, while woven globe pendants soften the height of the sitting room. A sculptural root wood coffee table anchors the space, paired with deep blue sofas, a woven rug, patterned cushions and a wood-burning stove that brings a familiar sense of gathering and comfort. Rather than feeling overly styled, this is a house assembled slowly and naturally. Cookbooks line the kitchen shelves, forming a practical working library filled with names such as Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Ottolenghi, Tom Kerridge and Raymond Blanc. An upright Kemble piano introduces music, memory and permanence, while framed photographs, artwork, glass objects and preserved moss add quieter layers of personality. This is Kent interior design at its most considered, where architecture provides structure, but living gives the home its meaning. Traditional materials, contemporary lighting, sculptural furniture and everyday objects sit together with ease, creating a home that feels elegant, personal and deeply lived in. A thoughtful example of modern British interiors, this house shows how a Kent home can evolve over time, holding both history and daily life in equal measure.
